Sono le 23.20 circa quando sul palco salgono gli Ensoph, che riesco così a rivedere più di un anno dopo averli visti nel medesimo locale, dove aprirono una incredibile serata chiusa dai seminali Katatonia, ma questa è un'altra storia...
La band veneta conferma ancora una volta il suo talento: il sound proposto, alla pari del frontman Nicholas, che si presenta sul palco con corona di spine in testa e fiori (e bottiglia di vino rosso) alla mano, è perverso, suggestivo, potente e... sensuale. Indovinato mix di metal, electro, industrial, difficile anche impegnandosi trovare band simili agli Ensoph, e questo la dice lunga sull'originalità della loro proposta.
Ottima l'atmosfera creata dalla band, l'attenzione degli astanti è sapientemente catturata da Nicholas, dalle sue movenze e dalla sua capacità di alternare versatilmente diversi stili vocali, spaziando dal cantato pulito quasi recitato allo screaming agghiacciante, quasi black metal. Mi ha ricordato le prove di Dani dei Cradle of Filth degli esordi, quando ancora internet era cosa per pochissimi e chi li ascoltava pensava avessero più cantanti.
Veramente buona la prova del chitarrista Giuliano, il quale macina potenti riff a catena, i suoni sono molto buoni e la band termina la -purtroppo- breve esibizione, 50 minuti scarsi, fra gli applausi dei presenti, i quali si sono lasciati avvolgere dalla teatralità, dalla follia e dall'abbraccio esoterico della loro proposta, uscendone decisamente soddisfatti.

The lead singer of Ensoph Nicola (and he is also a he) came on clutching a bunch of flowers. Most of the band were wearing gas masks and Nicola had a big black line running up his torso and over his bald head making him look like he had been run over by a truck. To say they looked visually strange would be an understatement. Jaldabaoth At The Spring Of Time sensuously oozed its way out the speakers and the demented singer cackled and whispered his way through the vocals with an eerie clarity. It was even odder due to the fact this was the first time I have ever been to this poxy venue and actually witnessed a band with decent sound! Flutist Anna joined them adding to the mystical vibe of the music and the singer threw his flowers into the crowd where they were caught by a beefy guy at the front. He immediately passed them to his girlfriend and the singer also proved his masculinity by giving Anna a good old grope. Back to the music, we were getting hit with techno bleeps and jagged guitar riffs and all of a sudden I thought to myself, “this song sounds like Depeche Mode’s Personal Jesus”. In fact it was just that and I wonder whether I should be embarrassed having named that song in one. In The Flesh had a very odd scale harmonic flying out adding a dash of prog insanity and all you could see on the stage were the whites of the singer’s eyes. Sophia’s Fall was the highlight as far as the material I recognised was concerned and I am happy to say that Ensoph provided both one of the most interesting live performances of the year to back up one hell of a strange album.

Ce sont les italiens de ENSOPH (www.ensoph.it ) qui ouvrent le concert, ayant récemment sorti un nouveau cd (cf chronique cds) et dès l'ouverture du rideau (scène tel un théâtre), on plonge dans ce monde electro dark metal bizarre; le groupe arbore l'imagerie du cd à savoir masques à gaz, look cyber-black-goth, avec un chanteur à la prestation agitée, allant de temps à autre chanter une romance perverse auprès de la flutiste...sûrement en référence aux débuts du groupe où celui-ci apparaissait sur scène ave une troupe de théâtre. En effet, Ensoph pratique un style un peu à la The Kovenant accompagné par une flutiste oeuvrant dans un style à la Bethzaida / Dark Reality...une étrange alchimie qui s'avère cependant efficace...La prestation ne dure qu'une demi-heure pour laisser la place au reste de l'affiche; on notera dès le deuxième morceau une étrange et surprenante reprise du "Personal Jesus" de Depeche Mode.

Terminata la loro esibizione sono saliti sul palco gli Ensoph, che sono riuscito così a rivedere a distanza di qualche mese dal loro concerto tenuto a Reggio Emilia in compagnia degli americani Cinema Strange. La band veneta conferma ancora una volta il suo talento e state pur certi che il nuovo album ‘Opus Dementiae’, che veniva presentato ufficialmente per la prima volta, sarà un’autentica sorpresa che saprà riscuotere consensi pressoché unanimi. Il sound degli Ensoph è folle e perverso, potente e suggestivo. Nella loro musica potete trovare metal, industrial, electro, un flauto prog che richiama atmosfere settantiane e un cantante (Nicholas) che riesce ad alternare con una facilità estrema vocals alla Sopor Aeternus ad altre quasi Black Metal . Anche a spremersi le meningi è difficile trovare una band simile agli Ensoph e questo rende l’idea di quanto sia originale la loro proposta. La loro scaletta è stata più o meno simile a quella della data emiliana proponendo ‘Jaldabaoth At The Spring Of Time’, la “datata” ‘Shattered Void’, ‘Kyrie Love Bullet’, la potente cover di ‘Personal Jesus’ (Depeche Mode), ‘In The Flesh (visione della passione)’, ‘Sophia’s Fall’, ‘Sun Of The Liar’ e infine ‘Proudly Divine’. I suoni erano perfetti e gli Ensoph sono usciti tra gli applausi.
